It was a hot summer afternoon in Austin with the usual blue skies. I boarded the bus, and there he was, sitting at the very back, short blond hair, baby blue eyes, angelic face scarcely hidden by a five-o-clock shadow, sporting a wife-beater, cargo shorts, and flip flops. I sat down at the opposite side of the backseat from him. He kept on shifting, looking around, and fidgeting, as if he was anxious. After I finished snapping my photos, he asked me, "Do you go to U.T.?"

"Yeah…you?"

"No. I'm not in college."

"When did you graduate from high school?"

"Last year. It's been tough finding a job. Do you know where I can find one?"

I thought for a moment before I said, "If you're interested, I can take more photos of you and pay you ten dollars an hour."

"That would really help."

"Do you have a number I can use to reach you?" He gave me his home number, explaining that it was a land line.

"Thanks dude. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Not a problem."

He got off the bus ten minutes later. I couldn't stop thinking about the next day when I get to go to this Texas redneck's house to take more photos of him.

I would be the photographer, and I would be in control.
