Justice or Vengeance, Part 2

by Archangel

Four hours later, police are leaving Jordan's apartment after questioning him about Jake's death. As the last police officer began to walk out he advised Jordan to call a friend or relative. He calls the first person that comes into mind, Simon. Simon was his childhood friend; they went to school together, camp, college and every problem that arose they tackled it together. Then they started to drift apart, slowly. They started to hang around different crowds yet kept in contact. When they would get together, they would talk and talk about everything, and everyone, including Jake. "Simon, he's gone," Jordan said down the telephone line "What do you mean, who is gone?" ask Simon knowing that something was troubling Jordan but did not know what. "Jake. He's dead, he died in his house," Jordan hung on the words but couldn't get them out, but that's not all" "What are you not you telling me?" "I found him, with multiple gun shots to the back" tears started to run down Jordan's face as he continued to talk. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry, I know he was your best friend and more, I'm so, so sorry. Do you need some company?" "Yes please, I could use a friend right about now" With that he said his goodbye and hung up the phone. The police had been gone for ten minutes when a knock came at the door. "Jordan?" Simon said in a soft voice "Can I come in?" Jordan was startled by the voice; he didn't think that Simon would be over so quickly. "Hey," he said in his soft voice as he sat on the couch, "I didn't think you would come so quick," getting up heading over to the door, "come in, thanks for coming, do you want a drink, I think I might have a cup of coffee, do you want one?" "Yeah, sure" replies As Jordan was making the coffee, Simon was lost in thought. Had Jordan told him everything that he knew? Were there clues that linked Jake's death to anything or anyone? "Is this the way you like it?" "Huh?" replied Simon, being whisked back to reality, "What do you mean?" wondering, if Jordan knows anything more than what he has said about Jake's death. "Your coffee, is it the way you like it?" "Yeah, it's fine, can I ask you a question if I may?" Simon said approaching the couch, sitting on the end. Jordan came to rest on the other side of the couch leaning against the armrest, feet up, hugging his knees almost. "Yeah, sure" replied Jordan wondering why Simon was asking "Why did you call me, not that I'm ungrateful, but you have family that live closer to you than I do?" he asked. Jordan just chuckled a little. "You are my one true friend who has helped me more times than I can count, that's why" "Oh," Simon said with a sigh, a long pause over come them both as they gazed at their cup of coffee. Simon decided to break the silence, "Do you want to talk about it?" "Okay, where do I start?" brushing off any kind of nerves that he had "Try the beginning, why were you there?" replied Simon He started, slowly, "I was, I was going to see him, I had fallen in love with him, and I thought he had the same feelings for me. I was going over to declare my love for him. I called him first, to see if he was home and he was, I told him that I had something important to tell him and that I would be over in thirty minutes, he said that he would wait," his voice started to become broken, Simon started to notice this and that Jordan's eyes started to change. He was holding back the tears. "I got there and his car was in the driveway so I knew that he had to be home. I called out his name and rung the doorbell. There was no answer. I knocked on the door, and as I knocked, the door opened. I thought that he had left it open for me, until I push it further. He had been robbed, within the last thirty minutes. The place was a mess" tears were visible in Jordan's eyes, "I called out his name, trying to find him but I couldn't get anything. Books were everywhere; tables and chairs were thrown around the room. In the study, books were all around me. The rumpus room had items taken and cuts in his fine leather chairs, and the bedroom, the bedroom…" his voice started to trail off, tears were running down his cheek, he couldn't get the rest out. Simon, who had finished his coffee, opened up his arms to Jordan and beckoned him in. Jordan put down his cup and went across to Simon. Simon held him in his arms, "You don't have to continue, if its too hard" he said, tightening his grip around him but not hurting him, more of a reassurance, that Jordan was safe in Simon's arms. Jordan cried himself to sleep in Simon's arms. Simon too fell asleep on the couch. As Simon drifted off, he remembered time before this, many incidents had led to this type outcome, they often fell asleep in each other's arms. They made a promised to each other that they would take care of the other person if something bad had happened.
